The origin of the group's name is uncertain. One story claims that the name was the result of the original lineup participating in a night of extremely heavy drinking which resulted in a bar owner throwing the drunk group out and calling them a bunch of "revolting cocks." Another, possibly equally apocryphal, tale goes that Al Jourgensen and Chris Connelly were drinking in a bar where they were accused by girls who overheard their discussion and called them "revolting cocks." Still another rumor is that the name was originally that of a Belgian street gang based in Brussels.

The group was founded in 1985 by Al Jourgensen and Luc Van Acker, along with Patrick Codenys and Richard 23 of Front 242. The first release was No Devotion on Wax Trax records.

Losing Richard 23 and Patrick Codenys due to creative differences, the group's remaining two members were augmented by a rapidly changing set of musicians centered around Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, later Damage Manual), Paul Barker (Ministry), Duane Buford, and Bill Rieflin (who is now playing for REM), with around twenty others as irregular contributors or guest artists.

The single was quickly followed by an album Big Sexy Land in 1986, followed by a live album You Goddamned Son of a Bitch in 1987 and Beers, Steers, and Queers in 1989. After a hiatus, Linger Ficken' Good, was released in 1993 - this would be Revolting Cocks' last album for over 10 years.

The first album was a mix of industrial, dance and techno, with sampling and strong synthesized beats dominating. The live album, with the change in personnel, featured a return to Ministry-like industrial - the Big Sexy Land tracks embedded in shouting and noise. This trend continued on Beers, Steers and Queers, layering sample over sample and pushing ever further into distortion. Linger Ficken' Good was released by Sire records and is a tamer affair, most tracks returning to the less layered material and only occasionally producing Ministry noise. Included was a cover of Rod Stewart's Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?, also released as a single.

In 2004, the band released iterations of "Prune Tang" to disappointing responses from fans. An album titled "Purple Head" was due in 2004, but was delayed until 2006 with a change in title, "Cocked & Loaded." The first single, "Caliente (Dark Entries)," a cover of sorts of "Dark Entries" By Bauhaus, with vocalist Gibby Haynes, was featured on the soundtrack to Saw II in 2005.

The Revolting Cocks are also known for their perverse lyrics and raunchy live shows. Due to their content, they were a target for angry moralists in the late '80s/early '90s. In the mid '80s, their song "No Devotion" was put on the PMRC's "banning list", and in 1990, Britain's Home Secretary Douglas Hurd tried to stop the band from performing in the UK by refusing them work permits. They have also been offensive to the songwriters/performers in which they chose to cover and satire, such as Olivia Newton-John and Rod Stewart (though the former denied them permission entirely to perform their work outright).

Borghesia is a Slovenian electronic music / rock music group, created in Ljubljana in 1982. The band was formed by members of the alternative theatre group Theatre FV-112/15. Borghesia created its aesthetics using the imagery of prohibited, tabooed and repressed. Their sound is often compared to that of other groups in the period such as D.A.F., Manufacture and more notably Front 242, whom many cite as the chief instigators of the Electronic Body Music label used to describe such music. Notable moments (to meet Wikipedias standards for notability above):

1. Borghesia went on several Europe-wide concert tours, mainly in 1988-91, which were reviewed in large music magazines in England, Germany etc, like NME, Melody Maker, New Life, Zillo.

2. They released four albums on Play It Again Sam, one of the more important indie labels, which were also licensed to Wax Trax in the USA and Canada.

4. Aldo Ivancic later formed the band Bast, and is famous in the Slovenian music scene today as a producer.

5. Borghesia together with Laibach were prominent representatives of Slovenian Electronic Body Music, and topped the bill on the compilation albums Trans Slovenia Express, released on Mute Records.

6. Their live show in Gothenburg, Sweden in October 1988 was the subject of an hour long broadcast on Swedish national radio network, on the show P3 Live.

With a limited range of equipment, Leeb manages to do an amazing job on this album back in 1987. It may sound primitive at first, but the tracks really grow on you.

The State.
This is a nice intro for the album. It's very repetitive, with no chorus or vocals, but it's catchy nonetheless. It starts with a medium paced synth line and then quickly adds a strong looping drum beat which is the highlight of the song. There are some very effective samples used throughout the track in place of vocals, and some Delerium-like orchestrations in the background.

Insanity Lurks Nearby.
Very bass driven track. The bass sound is quite artifical sounding compared to more recent works however. Leeb also does a decent job of singing on this track, with no vocal distortion. Overall a decent mid-paced track, very EBM-like, but a little darker.

Casualties.
Fast, tinkly synths start off this track. It's also quite melodic overall. There's some low singing by Leeb far in the background. Again no chorus. This track is very different from usual FLA, sounds like it should belong on an early Delerium album as it's pretty atmospheric.

Ausgang Zum Himmel.
This is a very strange track. No real structure or beat to it. Mostly a lot of samples and sound effects thrown together with no vocals. It's quite dark as well. This one I would almost have to put on a Synaesthesia album because of it's style.

Nine Times.
This one starts with tinkly synths and samples, followed by a funky bass synth that wouldn't sound out of place on a Front 242 track. There's also a high pitched synth that almost souds like a guitar solo, but works well in the song. Again quite catchy overall, very EBMish.

Black March.
This one sounds quite like Front 242 musically, and even in terms of vocals. It's also the first track on the album that seems to have something of a chorus. It's a great track, with some dark vocal melodies.

No Control.
Very rythmic synths with lots of reverb. A lot of different instrument sounds. No real vocals. One of the fastest tracks on the album. It is also quite atmoshperic in places. Excellent overall.

Slaughter House.
This track is basically synthpop with samples. Not bad, but not outstanding either.

This is a good album overall. Excellent if you factor in the limited equipment and the fact that it's Leeb's first album. A must have if you like EBM, but be warned, it's very different from their recent albums. Hard to find in record stores but plentiful and cheap at online music stores. I got my mine for $10 US.

This is the first album from stockholm based electroact lip service. The band was formed at the end of 2006 and decided by an immediate decision to make an album consisting of hard beats, electronic baselines and a retro approach in a modern soundscape.

By april this year it was recorded. By may it was mastered and now july 9th 2007 it is released.

“Copy Kill Original” includes the sexual slavery of “Velvet machine”, the ultraviolent slaughtering of a machomale in “Flies”, the escaperoute for the curious in “Get your boots” and the great conspiracy of “Trace the fourteen lights”.

128 tracks over 10 CDs, Mute Audio Documents is a unique insight into the musical development of the label and its artists, highlighting the influence, the success and, most importantly, the great music produced since its inception in 1978.

Mute Audio Documents is a collection of Mute’s single releases from 1978 to 1984 and includes the first 4 double CD volumes of an ongoing series plus a 2CD rarities album exclusive to the box set. The series will feature all the A-side and B-side single tracks released by Mute in addition to album tracks by the artists for whom there were only album releases.

Mute emerged in the post-punk era. It was a new era of pop democracy, and anyone could make a record. You didn't even need to know three chords, according to Mute founder Daniel Miller. All you needed, he said, was an idea.

His 'idea' was to create a classic of DIY pop – a double A sided 7” single featuring the songs T.V.O.D. and Warm Leatherette. He called himself The Normal, designed a sleeve with Letraset, stuck the name Mute on it, and accidentally started a record label.

You only have to listen to the music gathered on these 10 CDs to see how Mute became the blueprint for maverick independence and sonic adventurousness – a blueprint that countless labels follow to this day.
