Mute release a brand new compilation of KRAFWERK covers, TRANS SLOVENIA EXPRESS VOL.2, on 25TH JULY 2005. This is the follow up to 1994's critically acclaimed Trans Slovenia Express and includes versions of Kraftwerk songs by Slovenian artists including LAIBACH.

Trans Slovenia Express includes fourteen remakes of songs by the first mainstream electronic band, Kraftwerk - the pioneers of their genre. Anyone who knows a little bit about Kraftwerk will be familiar with their classic Trans Europe Express album (1977). On Trans Slovenia Express Vol. 2, Kraftwerk classics are reinterpreted by artists from Slovenia, a small country in the heart of Europe. Some of the artists are newcomers, others have been around since the Kraftwerk days - for example the industrial pioneers Laibach who regularly quote Kraftwerk as one of their key influences.

So why Volume 2? It's a sequel to the 1994 original, also released on Mute to critical acclaim. Eleven years after, the time felt right to show what has happened during these years... And the basic aim remained the same - to showcase the Slovenian musical scene and its diversity.

First up on the album is Laibach. Their contribution to this album is unique in the sense that it is not a straight remake. It is loosely based on Laibach's own song, Brother of Mine, arranged in as though Kraftwerk have remixed it. After LAIBACH and their Kraftwerkian techno-pop the album continues with a pop duo called SILENCE who chose UK singer Anne Clark (Sleeper in Metropolis) to sing guest vocals on Hall of Mirrors. It continues on a harder note with SIDDHARTA, the biggest Slovenian rock act who sell-out stadiums at home and have recently signed a deal with Ministry of Sound (as their first ever rock band!). THE STROJ (pronounced stroy) are a crew of metal percussionists in the best tradition of Test Department or Les Tamboures Du Bronx - so Metal On Metal was the obvious choice for them. OCTEX and MOOB are two laptop artists who came up with very inventive minimal/dub/click-house versions that also work well in clubs So do TORUL's old-skool electro version, the trance-y versions by SEQUAN and iTURK, ALENIA's tech-house version of Home Computer and a drum'n'bass version by O.S.T. LARA-B, a well-known female rock singer, did a heavy rock version of Hall of Mirrors while ROZMARINKE, a popular all-girl string quartet, did a remake of Radioactivity with added electronic instruments and vocals courtesy of the Silence lead singer. Mitternacht by BAST is the only song here to pay homage to the pre-Autobahn-era Kraftwerk.

CDR - Lip Service - Copies Will Kill The Original [Demonstration CD 1]

Went to see the second gig of Lip Service last week. As they describe them selves: WE ARE THE ORIGINAL KOPISTS. WE PLAY DOPPELGÄNGER MUSIC. Nothing new really... we celebrate the best bits by stealing them and making them our own. Respect to the inventors, respect to the imposters and the original kopists.

At first you would say they play body music inspired by the classic bands, but they have added the good pop-tune-feeling thay might appeal to a broader audience. the poptunefeeling are not in direct focus, but is allway there in the background pushing the songs further.

Unhuman (it's not a word) delves further into the structure of melody and vocals than its brut force predecessor. Tracks such as '20 Volts of Steel' morph vocodered vocals into jacking Chicago house whilst 'Night Drive' tags hypnotic synth lines onto the chromed body work of a sleek, midnight destined electro-chariot. Title track 'Unhuman' and 'Drug Punk' ghost the melody onto the dancefloor, coaxing warmth and soul from the production duo’s instruments whilst opening track and first single 'Bleep #1' bridges the gap between the dancefloor ready-to-go first album and more developed song structure of the second. 'Tete en Plastique" adds synth drama to its strobe strutting beats, 'Re-format' splices taut synth lines onto dynamic, grinding basslines and 'AC 775' rolls into the depths of the night with volcanic intensity. Finally, 'Sikk' reverberates into the twilight hours like Plastikman going ten rounds with an exploding Bontempi organ factory.

As production duo Bryan and Mr. No develop their own DJ tag team show using CDJs, laptops and microphones turning it into a "MOTOR DJ performance" their other live band, the four piece X-Lover, remains firmly on the back-burner. A constant round of remixing for the likes of Terence Fixmer, US synth pop band Julien-K, Nitzer Ebb and a cover of Cypress Hill's 'Insane In the Brain' with T.Raumschmiere on vocals has further maintained MOTOR's production sharpness. Now, not even a full year from their debut album, the engine has been tweaked and polished for a smoother, more sophisticated ride.


Bio:

2006 has been a phenomenal year for MOTOR . Not only did they unleash their debut album, 'Klunk', on the back of their 'Stuka Stunt', 'Sweatbox' and 'Black Powder' singles, but their live show as a travelling three piece has torn up clubs, gigs and festivals the world over. MOTOR supported Nitzer Ebb on their world tour and appeared at such festivals as I Love Techno with Kraftwerk, and Pukkelpop with Daft Punk.

MOTOR live is Mr. Nô, Bryan Black and XLover guitarist Hugo Menendez . Electronic music practising a punk ethic, MOTOR is unlike anything else: abrasive, strangely melodic, pulsing like a machine. A sound, which by no mistake, has put them in a class of their own.
Mr. No and bryan black formed MOTOR in the smoky basements of Shoreditch, London where Mr. No was playing drums and Bryan was watching on in awe. Mr. No comes from the industrial wastelands of Paris , and Bryan Black from Minneapolis. Bryan Black was seminal pop star Prince 's sound designer and programmer at Paisley Park Studios in the late 90s before setting off to London to pursue his own musical projects whilst Mr. No arrived in London in 1989 with a mission to turn drummers into drum machines.

The duo has remixed the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Nitzer Ebb, Marilyn Manson and Depeche Mode between releasing a string of raw, bold and innovative singles including the massive 'Sweatbox' which toped many charts and became the peak track in the sets of DJ Hell, Svan Vath, Dave Clarke, Miss Kitten and many others.

The band's debut album, 'Klunk' is packed with dark menacing grooves, corrosive industrial drumming and the pioneering spirit of acid house which locks into a swirl of techno-strobed hedonism and doesn't let go. 'Klunk' joins the dots between Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Kraftwerk, Plastikman, acid house and minimal techno creating a glorious dancefloor killing sound that is uniquely MOTOR.

MOTOR are currently in the studio mixing the new album and preparing for a World tour starting in January 2007.
